Top Diablo-Like ARPGs of All Time – Updated 2023

Hello everyone, Saad here! After creating the best Diablo-like ARPG list in the past, I realized that I missed out on several deserving games. Therefore, I’ve decided to make an updated version of the list, considering some new releases and even including some Diablo games for comparison. Let’s dive in!

1) Foreign

Foreign is an exciting action RPG that blends elements of loot collection and character building. Set in the Indian Ocean, you embark on a thrilling journey, exploring the secrets of the drunken God while living the life of a pirate. Collect hats, weapons, and pets as you progress, and enhance your weapons with special spell runes. Customize your character with unique perks, and don’t worry; despite the core shooting mechanics, melee and spellcaster build work exceptionally well in this game.

2) Foreign Steel

Continuing the story after the events of the first Dark Alliance game, Foreign Steel introduces players to a new adventurer on a quest to defeat another foe. Choose from five races or class combinations at the beginning, and as you defeat enemies and gain experience points, customize your character’s stats. Like any Diablo-like ARPG, Foreign Steel allows you to build various fighting styles with specific spells and abilities.

3) Last Epoch

Last Epoch offers a unique twist on the traditional action RPG formula, featuring a variety of classes and customization options. The time travel aspect adds intrigue to the story, providing a fresh narrative experience. Compared to Path of Exile, Last Epoch is more approachable, with an easier-to-understand passive and active skill system. Although the game is still in early access, it already demonstrates strong potential and receives regular updates, showcasing the developers’ active involvement and commitment to the game’s improvement and growth.

4) Minecraft Dungeons

Minecraft Dungeons takes players on an adventurous journey through dungeons filled with monsters, traps, puzzles, bosses, and treasures. Unlike regular Minecraft, this game adopts a Diablo-style top-down view and generates new dungeons with each playthrough. Enjoy the freedom to use any weapon or armour you like, as the game doesn’t have a character class system. Accumulate experience points to enchant your weapons and tools, and make use of artifacts that grant powerful abilities with cooldowns.

5) Awakening

The fantasy setting of the Heretic Kingdoms is the setting for the gripping video game Awakening. You play the part of the Devourer, a monster that has been called from the shadow realm by an enigmatic hooded man, as the player. With a variety of armour, accessories, and weaponry available in the game that can be enhanced with different essences, you may customise your play style with a variety of tactical options. Additionally, the game gives players plenty of opportunity to change things up at any time, which appeals to those who appreciate building variety but detest starting from zero.

6) Book of Demons

Book of Demons combines two conventional gaming genres: dungeon exploration and deck building. Players can choose between three characters: a warrior, a rogue, or a wizard, each with their own set of attack, defence, and special skills. As you explore the dungeons, you’ll come across a variety of creatures and sub-bosses, keeping you on your toes with unexpected shocks.

7) Icon

Icon follows the traditional action RPG model by putting you in charge of a hero who travels through levels packed with foes, treasure, and tough monsters. The game is created at random levels, which keeps each playing interesting and increases replay value. You have the option to modify your character’s attributes and gear to fit your desired playing style thanks to the four distinct categories, each of which offers special capabilities and powers. Additionally, the intricacy and complexities of the game are increased via crafting and upgrading equipment.

8) Wilson: Lords of Mayhem

Wilson: Lords of Mayhem seamlessly blends action RPG and dungeon-crawling elements. Your journey will take you through dungeons, acquiring more powerful gear and crafting a build that complements your playstyle. The game’s flexibility with builds is commendable, and its straightforward progression system makes it easily understandable. While some players may find technical issues to be a letdown, the overall value of the game shines through once it works smoothly. If you’re considering trying it out, my recommendation is to wait for a sale to make the most of this impressive experience.

9) Helsing Final 

Helsing Final Cut offers an action-packed RPG experience with a compelling narrative. This version includes three standalone episodes seamlessly woven together to form a continuous and engaging storyline. Players can choose from six playable classes and delve into the world of Borgavia, a realm filled with monsters, magic, and weird science, ready to explore its dark corners. The game’s complex skill tree for each class provides a vast array of options to maximize your chosen character’s potential.

10) Victor Vran

In Victor Vran, you step into the shoes of a Demon Hunter on a quest to find god’s companion amidst a massive demon outbreak. The gameplay follows the standard isometric action RPG format, enriched with the addition of powerful demon powers that unleash magic attacks. The game’s standout feature lies in its thrilling and fast-paced combat, offering hard-hitting and immensely satisfying battles. As you confront mobs of enemies, the clashing of demonic powers creates a visually stunning and dynamic combat design. The graphics, while not hyper-realistic, boast flashy and appealing visuals with plenty of cool facial effects.

11) Sacred 

At first glance, Sacred might appear as another attempt to copy Diablo’s success. However, it manages to capture some of Diablo’s essence better than most similar games, owing to its massive game world and innovative twists on the action RPG formula. Players can choose from six pre-made character types, each with their own unique characteristics. While some stats are predetermined based on the character class, players can also distribute points to specific stats as they level up. Each character has their own motivations for embarking on the main quest, but players are free to explore numerous side quests, dungeons, and other areas filled with tons of monsters and loot to discover.

12) December

December was highly anticipated by fans of isometric action RPGs like Diablo or Path of Exile. One of its unique features lies in the ability to combine abilities and runes limitlessly, encouraging experimentation in battles against hordes of enemies. Differing from traditional RPGs, December does away with predefined classes, granting players the freedom to select various combat styles. However, the game’s pay-to-win system detracts from the overall experience, favouring those who spend more money, which may not appeal to players who prefer a fair and balanced playing field.

13) Dungeon Siege 2: 

Dungeon Siege 2, a party-based Diablo-like game, significantly improves on its predecessor in various ways. The game allows you to recruit NPCs and even pets to accompany you on your journey. Retaining complete control over character development within your party, the skill system adds dynamism to character growth. Dungeon Siege 2 skillfully maintains a fantasy atmosphere through detailed environments and a cohesive fantasy universe, even though some textures may feel slightly outdated.

14) DSN:

DSN immerses players in an exhilarating cyberpunk world infused with Diablo-like gameplay. The game’s isometric view allows players to oversee their characters while engaging in Twin Stick shooting action. Customization is key, as players can fully personalize their character’s appearance and upgrade cyberware to gain new skills and abilities. Classic RPG elements such as level progression, stats, and character build make the experience even more captivating. Enhancing equipment and incorporating essential gameplay features add depth and complexity to SN’s thrilling gameplay.

15) V Rising:

V Rising blends elements from Diablo-like games with survival mechanics, offering a refreshing change of pace. Crafting mechanics will be familiar to survival game enthusiasts, and the levelling system is straightforward and easy to understand. As players progress, the game scales up to maintain a challenging experience. Embark on quests and explore the world while surviving in this intriguing and dynamic realm.

16) Torchlight 2 

In Torchlight 2, players embark on an epic journey through a fantastical world teeming with secret locations, countless enemies, side quests, and hidden treasures. The familiar gameplay loop of killing, looting, and levelling up feels engaging, and the game offers four distinct classes, each with its own unique playstyle and skill trees. Despite the seemingly limited variety in classes, the skill trees offer depth, providing players with diverse gameplay opportunities.

17) Diablo 3

For newcomers to the Diablo series or isometric action RPGs, Diablo 3 presents a simple yet satisfying concept: choose your skills, battle waves of monsters, collect loot, and repeat the process against increasingly formidable foes. Decimating hordes of enemies remain as gratifying as ever, with each class offering various effective and rewarding strategies. However, some players may find the world atmosphere and story lacking compared to its predecessor, Diablo 2.

18) Titan Quest

In Titan Quest, players assume the role of a hero tasked with saving the world from Titans, battling enemies from Greek myth along the way. Level up your character by earning experience points from defeating foes and completing quests. As with any RPG, you can enhance attributes and skills, choosing from different masteries to tailor your character’s build. The allure of abundant loot, reminiscent of games like Diablo, adds to Titan Quest’s appeal.

19) Diablo 2 Resurrected

Diablo 2 Resurrected breathes new life into one of the best classic ARPG masterpieces. What makes it stand out is its exceptional replay value, as the map randomizes every time you load into the game, offering a unique experience with each playthrough. With seven character classes, each boasting its strengths and weaknesses, combined with an addictive random loot system, players can easily sink hundreds of hours into building their perfect characters.

20) Warhammer 40K Inquisitor Martyr:

Warhammer 40K Inquisitor Martyr presents a different perspective on the Diablo-style action RPG genre. The game’s setting in the Warhammer 40K universe provides an enticing hook, and the narrative involving suspected heresy and a lost ship offers engaging moments. The focus on uncovering oppression and engaging in long-range combat adds an interesting twist. With a variety of playable characters and specialized classes, players have ample options to experiment with diverse playstyles. Fans of both Warhammer 40K and Diablo will find this game worth trying.
